Path Of Exile: It's free and good, and good and free.

Hey y'all? You guys like Diablo? How about ridiculously huge skill trees? How about... An absurdly gothy setting? If you're into that, then maybe Path of Exile is for you.

Also, it's free, and from what I've played, is remarkably good and non-exploitative with the microtransactions. Most of the microtransactions are purely cosmetic, and the ones that aren't are stuff like stash tabs or guild things. And this game is supported and updated constantly - not only is it a full 4-act game, with six (?) classes and a whole mess of other things, but they just announced a new expansion that will essentially more than double the size of the game.

The way skills work is interesting too - you get a skill point in every level, but that goes to a (absurdly enormous) passive skill tree that gives you bonuses to statistics and other passives like attack speed or overall damage. The actual skills you get are acquired through skill gems that you socket into your items. These skills vary from stuff like lightning bolt, to enhanced melee attacks, and so on. There are even modifier skill gems that will change the way a skill actually works - increasing damage, or number of projectiles, or so on. It's actually a fairly neat system.

Additionally, since the massive skill tree is there for all classes, you could concievably eventually branch out into other classes' skill trees - everyone starts in a different spot but eventually with enough points you can move over to other spots.

Oh, the story? Well, you're a person who's apparently pissed off the presumably evil totalitarian government so they shipped you off to this shitty country where everything sucks all the time. And you want to go back and get revenge on them (which apparently is something you'll be doing in the big expansion). I'm guessing you do!

Anyway, the main purpose of this thread is because these kinds of games are always way more fun when playing with other people. So let's get together and play - maybe form a guild or something, I dunno. It costs literally no money to try!

Anyone that has more experience in the game than I do should feel free to suggest things to add to this OP.
