The Dark Tower is a seven-book series (plus a short story, plus a spinoff novel, plus some comics, plus technically most of Stephen King's other work) about Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger in a world that has "moved on." Roland seeks the Dark Tower, the linchpin of reality, the center that holds all the myriad worlds and realms of the cosmos (and King's stories) together. He is joined in his quest by his ka-tet, a band of companions drawn from various time periods of a world very much like ours. He is opposed by the Crimson King and his servant, a mysterious Man in Black of many names, some of which may be familiar to longtime King readers.

A film adaptation of the series, starring Idris Elba as Roland and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black, is set for release in February 2017, and a planned 2018 TV series based on the fourth book, Wizard and Glass, which is mostly a big flashback to Roland's younger days.
As I've alluded, the series is notable for being King's magnum opus, connecting many of his other works into a single fictional multiverse, via everything existing on different levels of the Tower. Characters from The Stand, It, Salem's Lot and many others make appearances in various major and minor roles.
