DuckTales Remastered this summer! XBLA, PSN, Steam. All my ducks.

Terraria - It's like Minecraft, but not really. Hamachi info p4, server is (hopefully) up!

Hey guys, I'm here to tell you about Terraria. What is Terraria? At first glance it looks like a 2D Minecraft. And in some ways it kind of is - it's block-based, and you use said blocks to build yourself a home. However, that's where the similarities end. Terraria is much more focused on fighting monsters and getting cool loot so you can fight even tougher monsters than building a really cool home or making a computer in your videogame or something nutso like that. It's also tons of fun. And you keep your stuff after you die (unless you choose not to)!

Caves fulla mushrooms!

The most fun you can have this game is multiplayer, and honestly I feel like it's the only way to play. I've only ever played multiplayer. It was me and @FlatEric most of the time, and man, it's plenty fun with two people, and I'd love to regularly play with more. But what platforms is this available for?

Well, it originally came out on Steam, which is what I mainly played it on. And this week the XBLA/PSN version came out, which is apparently pretty good! And this summer there's even a Playstation Vita version coming, which excites me to no end and makes me glad I'm one of the six people that have a Vita, because of course I'm gonna buy it for that.

The PC version has a ton of content. The XBL/PSN version apparently has even more, which is cool! I never even unlocked hard mode even after 60+ hours of the PC version, so even more content is both awesome and terrifying.

I'll compile a list of Steam, XBLA and PSN people that want to play it here.

Steam:

L4Mori (Moriveth)
TheBetman (The Betman)
shock gee (Shock G)
MrMonroe (MrMonroe)
ValveJunkie (ValveJunkie)
TheBlindPeople (Duke 2.0)
superdichotomy (Dichotomy)
jpremium (premium)

Xbox:

Moriveth (Moriveth)
Paperluigi44 (Paperluigi44)
Aegeri (Aegeri)
Dug Danger (Mulletude)

PSN:

So c'mon guys. Play Terraria with me. I am down for both Xbox and PC, and maybe even PSN because I'm insane.

A while back, Nickelodeon bought up the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lock, stock, and barrel. They've rebooted the franchise and the one-hour series premiere airs Saturday morning, September 29, at 11 AM EST. There was a preview of the first half hour that aired on 9/28. It was actually really good. It had some genuinely very funny comic beats and it's not insultingly dumbed down, even if it's aimed at a younger crowd. The art style is CG animated, with a distinctive Teen Titans-esque anime wink every now and again. Overall, it's very smooth and the stylized art style works. The voice acting is very solid, with the cast being as follows:

Leonardo - Jason Biggs
Raphael - Sean Astin
Donatello - Rob Paulsen
Michelangelo - Greg Cipes

I urge you to give it a try. Lots of nods to previous incarnations. And, yes, Rob Paulsen was the voice of Raphael in the original cartoon.

HEY KIDS!
rM2YdMS.png
It's me, Looty the Loot Sword! Do you like killing monsters for goodies like your ol' pal, Looty?

...

That's what I thought! Well, then do I have the game for you! It's called PATH OF EXILE!
rl6kaaN.jpg

What's the game about? Well kids, you're an EXILE sent to the horrible lands of Wraeclast for various reasons! It's a terrible place of death and monsters, but some people have managed to set up homes there! Oh boy! You must help these people, because they give you MORE LOOT. Yaaaaaaaaaay! Help people enough and you might even get to the third act, defeating the biggest monster and earning the BEST LOOT EVER. Hooray!

Then you play the next difficulty AND DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN FOR EVEN MORE LOOT. OMIGOSH THAT IS THE BEST.

"But Looty," you say, "that sounds so gosh-darned good, but we already have so many whiz-bang games that do such cheery things already! Diablo 3 is such a hoot, and Torchlight 2 is just a real whizzer of a time! What can Path of Exile do for me?" Well that's okay! Those games are great, but Path of Exile offers new ways to have a really rumpus of an adventure. First, let me introduce you to the gem buddies!

2kh3FMk.gif

Normal gems are so boring, but the gem buddies give you skills! Just slap one in your armor or weapons, and you have a keen new skill! Raise the dead, toss fireballs, and much more! Don't sell them after two levels: gem buddies level WITH YOU!!!! It doesn't matter who you are: the gem buddies love you so long as you can keep your stats high enough for each level gain, your gem buddy will be you friend FOREVER. And if you can't use a gem buddy, then THAT'S OKAY. Just right click and remove the lil' guy feller and tuck her away until later. Gem buddy don't mind at all!

BUT THAT'S NOT IT, KIDDIES! Gem buddies love to help each through some link love! So long as sockets in an item are linked, you can add SUPPORT GEMS to make your gem buddies EVEN GEMMIER. A fork support gem will make your fireball split into MANY FIREBALLS. A cold damage support gem MAKES YOUR ZOMBIES DO BONUS COLD DAMAGE. As long as the sockets are linked, your gems can CUDDLE UP for FUN.

"That sounds great, Looty," I hear start, "but classes so much fun. If I can use ANY SKILL, then what about classes?"

First, let me show you the PASSIVE SKILL TREE.

sqm6CAW.gif

I see you are already tearing up at its beauty. That's okay, kids! It's natural to cry when things are so beautiful! Each time you level you get to move one space on the tree. Each space has funderful stats like more HP, better movement speed, or more damage, AND EVEN MORE THAN THAT. Classes determining where you start on the tree, like so!

HW1oetw.jpg

As you see, the tree is divided into three neat stats! Your class determines where on the tree you start. So Ms. Witch starts in the cool blue intellect area, whereas her neighbor Mr. Templar is a hybrid class, so he starts on the border of Intellect and Strength. While Ms. Witch can go into the Strength area if she wants, she'll have to spend more points to get there than her neighbor. This leads to many wonderful types of play styles! Isn't variety FUN?

THERE'S EVEN MORE TO SAY! The game got rid of money because money is yucky! Now you just trade for goodies like scrolls and items that make your stuff EVEN BETTER.

AND THE GAME IS FREE
xdbHbMG.gif

You don't have to buy anything! Not acts, levels, skill points, or classes! The cash shop is super keen and just has stuff like character slots, neato mosquito pets, bank slots, and fun dances!

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? THE GAME IS IN OPEN BETA RIGHT NOW, AND YOUR CHARACTERS WON'T RESET WHEN IT GOES LIVE.

I got this game for Christmas. It is a blast. It is an open-world RPG with some neat mechanics. To start, you pick a class-- wizard guy, archer guy or sword and shield guy. There are more classes, you can switch later. Switching classes allows you to pick up augments, which are sort of like character skills.

You make a sidekick/mule called a pawn and give it simple commands. And you can hire other people's pawns.

image

The combat is weighty and at times, the good kind of ridiculous

image

You can finally climb on a huge ass monsters in this game, rather than waiting for them fall over.

image

The fast travel system is difficult to access. You are meant to walk everywhere. It is a bit tedious, but it really draws you in.

PiptheFair wrote: »
Yeah, there are those little gems that you can find or buy that allow you warp back to Gran Soren, and I think I read somewhere that you can put some sort of magic stone down anywhere on the map and warp there too, but I don't know about where to find these stones or if it was bullshit I read on a blog somewhere.

My character, Nicholas, was a Strider for 25 levels. I switched him to Fighter to get some augments, and later I will make him either an Assassin or a Magic Archer.

I sure do miss the bows now that he is a Fighter.

ferrystones can be bought around town from the fat noble guy and the black cat, also they are sometimes on the ground right outside the pawn guild near the stone circle

you also get the beacon in the area where you finally kill the griffin and salomet

Hey Butts.

There's one of those stupid "Best X awards" things going on at "Critics Choice" and there is a category for forum software this year. We're trying to give it a good shot since we're sick of seeing Get Satisfaction and Proboards taking the cake.

Would you mind going and nominating Vanilla Forums at the place where nominations are done?

Let's Play FFVII: Crwth, You're Not Really Good At People Skills

I'm going to play FFVII until I can't put up with it anymore (or until I realize no one is reading this).

But first let's see what Wikipedia has to say about it.
Wikipedia wrote:
Final Fantasy VII (ファイナルファンタジーVII?) is a role-playing video game developed by Square (now Square Enix) as the seventh installment in the Final Fantasy series. It was released in 1997 for the Sony PlayStation, in 1998 for Microsoft Windows-based personal computers and in 2009 on the PlayStation Network. The game is the first in the series to use 3D computer graphics, featuring fully rendered characters on pre-rendered backgrounds, and was the first game in the main series to be released in Europe.

Final Fantasy VII follows protagonist Cloud Strife, who initially joins the eco-terrorist rebel organization AVALANCHE to stop the world-controlling megacorporation Shinra, who are draining the life of the planet for use as an energy source. As the story progresses, Cloud and his allies become involved in a larger world-threatening conflict, facing off against Sephiroth, the game's main antagonist.

Development of Final Fantasy VII began in 1994. The game was originally intended for release on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but was moved to the Nintendo 64. However, since the Nintendo 64's cartridges lacked the required storage capacity, Square decided to release the game for the CD-ROM based PlayStation instead. The game was designed and produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi, with direction by Yoshinori Kitase. The music was composed by Final Fantasy veteran Nobuo Uematsu, while the series' long-time character designer, Yoshitaka Amano, was replaced by Tetsuya Nomura.

Helped by a large pre-release promotional campaign, Final Fantasy VII became an immediate critical and commercial success. It has continued to sell solidly—10 million copies were sold by May 2010, making it the best-selling title in the series. Final Fantasy VII was praised for its graphics, gameplay, music and story. Criticism primarily pertained to its English localization. It has retrospectively been acknowledged as the game that popularized the Japanese role-playing video game style outside of its home market, and has frequently ranked highly on various top game lists. The popularity of the title led Square Enix to produce a series of prequels and sequels for different platforms under the collective title Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

Thanks Wikipedia.

Commander...

We have been watching your recent progress, and can I say we are not pleased.

Your heavies are that in weight only. You realize that the rocket launcher is extremely potent? That it can be used to destroy cover and annihilate aliens? I suppose the choice between Holopoints that give everyone +10 aim or the option to take two shots per turn is lost on you.

Your supports have been saying very mean things and dragging morale down. These are your quickest units that can heal your entire squad! That smoke they are blowing can save your bacon, Commander.

Don't get me started on your Assaults. Three arrests, Commander? This is XCOM, not a college Fraternity. These units are experts at CQC and can take down alien Sectopods with an alloy cannon and double shot, which can be used every turn. I suppose you're the type of kind that ignores lightning reflexes, hm?

And your snipers could not hit the broad side of a barn, Commander. Time and time again, we have had to repremand your units for using Squad Sight to play peeping tom on our female squaddies. Need I remind you that disabling shot is a serious threat to the aliens, and using scanners to check showers for cover is ENTIRELY inappropriate.

Despite all of these shortcomings, Asia has decided to increase funding because you bought them a pony.

You are my personal Terror Mission, Commander.

XCOM out.

You may have heard of Minecraft, a little hit from a man called Notch that made millions of dollars. Notch invested some of this money into his own company, named Mojang, and they're about to launch their second big project into the world.

Welcome to Scrolls

Wallpaper_art-1024x576.jpg

So what is Scrolls? Its one of these fancy online trading card games, only its not designed to pick up your wallet and messily devour it. Open beta starts tomorrow using the same model as Minecraft (buy in and you'll get full access to every new update, including the full game when its officially released).

A rough guide to what is included in the beta can be found here.

So, how does the game work?

When you buy scrolls, you'll get to choose one of three starter decks. This deck will form the basis of your collection, with further scrolls being bought with ingame gold. A small selection of scrolls (6 random scrolls per week, per player) can also be bought with real money, but the gold needed to buy these weekly 6 scrolls in game can be earned in 2 to 3 victories, sharply limiting any advantage gained from using the cash shop.

You throw 50 cards (up to 3 of each) into a deck and run off to duel other players. You'll fight on a board that looks like this:
Safe-bunnies-1024x576.jpg

Summoning creatures, flinging spells, that sort of thing. Its nice and turn based, and I'd say it was remarkably stress free.

You'll pick one of three resources to build your deck around, though splashing other colours is possible. You have:

Order: A military resource, based around formations of humanities best. Order players will set themselves up behind a spiky shield wall, deploying lots of troops to gradually steamroll opponents. Their creatures often buff each other, and their spells often impact movement of friends or foes.

Growth: A wilder resource, based around growing individual creatures. Growth is packed with wolves, vikings and enchantments to make the smallest creatures pack a nasty punch as the game goes on.

Energy: Energy is full of engineers, golems and robots. Energy is a bit more controlling, throwing around spells to directly destroy your opponents creatures and mighty bits of artillery to dominate the board. You will hate their mortars, even if you're the one using them.

Decay: Coming a bit after beta, decay is going to involve... death and stuff? They haven't really said much.

So, if you want a new and cheaper trading card game, give scrolls a go!

Let's Play: Civilization V!

Sid Meier's Civilization V (also known as Civilization 5 or Civ 5) is a turn-based strategy, 4X computer game developed by Firaxis, released on Microsoft Windows in September 2010[2] and on Mac OS X on November 23, 2010.

CIVILIZATION-V-FRONT-OF-BOX.jpg

In Civilization V, the player leads a civilization from prehistoric times into the future on a procedurally-generated map, achieving one of a number of different victory conditions through research, diplomacy, expansion, economic development, government and military conquest. The game is based on an entirely new game engine with hexagonal tiles instead of the square tiles of earlier games in the series.[8] Many elements from Civilization IV and its expansion packs have been removed or changed, such as religion and espionage (although these were reintroduced in its subsequent expansion). The combat system has been overhauled, removing stacking of military units and enabling cities to defend themselves by firing directly on nearby enemies.[9] In addition, the maps contain computer-controlled city-states as non-player characters that are available for trade, diplomacy and conquest. A civilization's borders also expand one tile at a time, favoring more productive tiles,[10] and roads now have a maintenance cost, making them much less common.[11]

The game features community, modding, and multiplayer elements.[8] An expansion pack, Civilization V: Gods & Kings, was released on June 19, 2012 in North America and June 22 internationally. It includes features such as religion, espionage, enhanced naval combat and combat AI, as well as nine new civilizations.

What the wiki entry DOESN'T say... is this game is badass as hell! :D
It isn't a quick game, but is well worth it.

I will be playing with @Hacksaw and @Bendery It Like Beckham

We're thinking of starting in 30-45 minutes.

Legend of Korra is what happens when you combine Batman: The Animated Series, Baccano and the original Avatar: The Last Airbender. It features Korra, the new Avatar as she deals with the problems of the spiritual world of the past clashes with the new technological advances. Together she has adventures with her friends Bolin, Mako, Asami, her teacher Tenzin and police chief Lin Beifong.

Season one is now over. Season two begins sometime in the future. We don't know. Hopefully this year. Also I just saw someone un-ironically compare the Avatar finale to The Phantom Menace.

You can watch the episodes here officially.

Howdy ho, fellow patriots! C-in-C Ronnie here. Now I hate to interrupt your wholesome American rockin' n' rolling and hip-hops, but it seems as if the gosh-darn Evil Empire's gone and invaded Western Europe and Scandinavia! Even now, the mailed fist of the Soviet Army is smashing unstoppably through the Fulda Gap, while crack Soviet marines storm the beaches of Norway and Denmark. Sure, we'll probably nuke 'em, but I'm told full-scale thermonuclear war polls real poor with the electorate, so how's about instead you pick up a copy of Wargame and have yourself a hard-drivin' American try at containing the Reds with some good old-fashioned conventional warfare?

image

Hang on, Dongs! Isn't "Wargames" an entire genre and also a popular movie?

Haha, no. Well, yes, but also a specific game. Wargame: Airland Battle is the sequel to Wargame: European Escalation, Eugen Studios' highly-acclaimed 2012 Cold War real-time strategy game. W:EE, widely regarded as the best RTS of 2012, dealt with battalion- and brigade-scale combined arms engagements between NATO and Warsaw Pact forces on the North German Plain between 1979 and 1989. Building off the IRISZOOM engine used in 2010's equally acclaimed R.U.S.E., W:EE is notable for rendering battlefields up to 16x16 kilometers in size, and, moreover, accurately simulating hundreds of contemporary pieces of military hardware, ranging from T-72s to Mi-24s to Blowpipes to AMX-30s to MILANs and encompassing 8 different nations. These extend to all aspects of modern ground warfare, including Main Battle Tanks, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Motorized and Mechanized Infantry, Reconnaissance vehicles, Gunships, SAMs and Anti-Air Artillery, Multiple-Launch Rocket Systems and Artillery. The game revolves around the careful and effective deployment of all of these assets in support of one another.

CRrNUsz.jpg
Not pictured: T-72s, Mi-24s, Blowpipes, AMX-30s, MILANs)

The singleplayer campaigns were somewhat ill-designed, despite making a laudable attempt to devise plausible NATO-PACT warfare scenarios that didn't have to end in a nuclear holocaust. The game's main attraction was, and remains, the multiplayer, enhanced by consistent patches and four successive installments of free DLC.

TL;DR - Incredibly generic name notwithstanding, Wargame is a large-scale military grognard's sim dressed up as an AAA RTS title, and it's awesome and anyone who likes strategy games about tanks should play it forever.

But what's Airland Battle do, then?

Airland Battle proposes to improve on literally all of Wargame's shit, adding 3 whole countries and several hundred new units on top of the original roster, expanding maps to 150km and adding jet fighters including all your favorite ones from when you were a wee nipper gluing 'em together out of model kits, such as A-10 Warthogs and F-117 Stealth Fighters and Harriers and Su-27 Flankers and and and

Cry Havoc

But for real the game actually includes full unit rosters for Poland, Czechoslovakia, Good Germany AND Evil Germany, Britain, France while ALB adds in Canada, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. I will stake my reputation as an internet military analyst that at least two of those have never been in a real AAA game before in any capacity. Also World In Conflict did not accurately model the distinct characteristics of various weapons platforms, nor did it take into account the logistics associated with arming and fueling mechanized forces during an extended engagement and basically if you play that you're a baby who needs to nut up and play this, the manliest of games for REAL MEN (and that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books)

HG_Wells_playing_to_Little_Wars.jpg
What playing Wargame:European Escalation actually feels like

Dongs this OP is getting long why are you posting this at 4 in the morning anyway

Because I have nobody waiting for me to climb into bed, but for my own demons

also, because Pre-Orders for ALB are meant to go up in the next couple days, supposedly with the prospect of Beta access and man you really should buy that if you got the lucre to hand because that would mean you could conceivably play Swedes vs. Canadians with me! And if other people - and you too, dear reader! - were to buy it we could all play Swedes-Danes-Canadians-French vs. Czechs-Poles-Germans-Russians. There's a bunch of ALB beta gameplay videos up on youtube if you would like to peruse them and the Official Site has a bunch of neat info on it also ask me about this game and I'll tell you about this game because oh boy I'm fond of this game.

Airland Battle is supposedly slated for release in May, although that's probably gonna be pushed back. European Escalation is on steam for $34.99, a price which it is absolutely worth. If you are one of those red-blooded boys (or the more intelligent sort of girl) who has already had the gumption to assume the burden of direct tactical command of hundreds of American/Russian/British/French/Good German/Evil German/Czechoslovak/Polish sons on the field of honor, post and I shall herein transcribe your name.

JUNE!!! Slightly LARGER gathering wherein people drive from all around to get together and do things! So far, no one seems to have a problem with JUNE 10-12. SO MUCH MORE SUCCESS!

Going cueball because of balding, advice?

$

After my morning shower, I did my normal thing and combed my hair in front of my mirror in my towel before brushing my teeth and it's become obvious to me that my hair is starting to thin. It's not noticeable when combed and dry, but when it's wet it's clearly thinner than it was 6 months ago and I think I'm starting to form a small widow's peak. From a tender young age, looking up at the ugly u-shaped horseshoes that adorned the other men in my family, I swore to myself that, when the day came that my genes would finally catch up to me, I would just shave my head rather than suffer the indignity of trying to cling to increasingly embarrassing strands of hair. It's my own way of taking control of the situation.

Hence, I've decided to make my metamorphosis from pre-Xbox J Allard to Post-Xbox J Allard this weekend. I've informed my family and friends of my intent, so that it won't shock them, but I'm curious where to go from there. Do I need to grow a wicked beard and join a thrash metal band? Does hat-wear become more important because of the deadly affects of the sun? Do I need to tan my head to get it to match the rest of my skin? What about aggressiveness of shaving - do I go cueball or should I go very short fuzz or what?

Anybody else who has taken this step want to give me some advice on how to embrace the bald?

And Hammered Dr. Light:

It was an utterly fantastic show, with around 40 musicians including the band, a brass section, strings section, and chorus all coming together to give a great performance, despite some technical issues.

Good news for those who missed it as well, the whole thing was filmed, and will either be up on the site or put on a DVD "If it's good enough", but I'm not sure of the time frame.

Anyway this thread is to continue discussion of the album or talk about the show if anyone else was there!
